UL94HB
Sample: 5″ x 1/2″ x thickness (typical thickness is 1/16″, 1/8″,1/4″)
Procedure:
Three samples of each thickness are to be tested. Prior to the test, the waterproof cable connector samples are to be placed at 20°C and 50% RH for 48 hours. The cable connector samples should be placed parallel to the long axis and at an angle of 45・ to the short axis. For each sample, draw two lines 1″ and 4″ from its end. A 1″ high blue flame is placed on the overhanging end of the sample and is removed after 30 seconds of burning. If the sample continues to burn after the flame is removed, then measure the time the cable connector sample burns between the two width marks, and the burn rate in inches per minute.
Grade requirements:
94HB
A: For cable connector samples between 0.120″ and 0.500″ thick, not more than 1.5″ per minute, greater than 3.0″ span, or
B:For cable connector samples with a thickness of 0.120″, the span cannot exceed 3.0″, or
C: The sample will spontaneously combust when the flame does not touch the 4.0″ mark.
UL94V-0, V-1, V-2
Sample: 5″ x 1/2″ x thickness (typical thickness is 1/16″, 1/8″, 1/4″)
Procedure:
A total of 10 samples (2 sets) were tested for each thickness. Five samples of each thickness were left at 23°C and 50% RH for 48 hours before testing. Five samples of each thickness were tested at 70°C for 7 days.
The cable connector samples were placed perpendicular to the long axis and mounted. The sample is mounted so that the lower end of the sample is 3/8″ from the top of the burner tube and a blue flame of 3/4 height is placed in the center of the lower end of the sample and burned for 10 seconds.
If the cable connector drips in grains, the liquid drips on a layer of unsurgically treated cotton placed 12″ below the sample.
Folded Grade Requirements
94V-0
A: No sample had a flame that burned for more than 10 seconds after the test flame was removed.
B: For each set of 5 samples, after 10 ignitions, the total time of burning with flames does not exceed 50 seconds
C: No samples burned all the way to the fixture
D: No samples were burned and the melted droplets ignited the cotton at 12″ below.
E: No sample that continues to burn red for more than 30 seconds after the second removal of the test flame.
94V-1
A: No sample that continued to burn red for more than 30 seconds after the test flame was removed.
B: For each set of 5 samples, the total time of burning with flames did not exceed 250 seconds after 10 ignitions
C: No samples burned all the way to the fixture (including burning with flames and reddish burning)
D: No samples, burning melted droplets down to ignite the cotton at 12″ below.
E: No sample, continued reddish burning for more than 60 seconds after the second removal of the test flame.
94V-2
A: No sample remained burning for more than 30 seconds after the test flame was removed.
B: For each set of 5 samples, the total time of burning with flames did not exceed 250 seconds after 10 ignitions
C: No samples burned all the way to the fixture (including flaming and reddening burns)
D: Allow the sample to burn melting droplets down to ignite the cotton at 12″ below, but the cotton burning time is shorter.
E: without any sample, after the second removal of the test flame, continued reddish burning for more than 60 seconds.
UL94-5VA or UL94-5VB
Folded Test Procedure
Depending on the results of the cable connector test, the material should be classified as 94-5VA or 94-5VB
The test procedure is as follows:
94-5VA for cable connector samples without burn-through
Burn-through cable connector samples are 94-5VB
Samples: 5″ x 1/2″ x thickness (bar) 6″ x 8″ x thickness (plate) Typical thicknesses (1/16″, 1/8″, 1/4″)
Procedure for bar samples (Method A):
2 sets of 10 samples total to be tested.
Five samples of each thickness were tested after 48 hours at 23°C and 50% RH.
Five samples of each thickness were tested after 7 days at 70°C.
For bar samples, mount perpendicular to the long axis.
A 5″ high flame with a 1/2″ inner flame was placed at the lower corner of the sample at an angle of 20 to the vertical. Bring the tip of the inner flame into contact with the sample.
The flame is burned for 5 seconds, moved for 5 seconds and this action is repeated until the sample has been burned 5 times.
Level requirements:
A: No sample continues to burn (including with flames burning and reddening burning) for more than 60 seconds after the 5th ignition.
B: No sample burned and melted droplets fell down to ignite the cotton below.
Procedure for flat samples (Method 2)
Same formulation as for stick cable connector samples:3 samples (2 sets) were mounted horizontally and the flame was placed in the center of the bottom surface to burn.
